Dog behaviourist Will Atherton and holiday cottage experts Wheelwrights have deemed Collies, Labs and Spaniels as the perfect dogs for staycations in the Lake District.
The increase in people opting for dog-friendly holidays has prompted this research on the best holiday types for some of the most popular dog breeds in the UK.
Mr Atherton assessed popular breeds and ranked them based on their personality and traits.
Golden Retrievers, with their adaptable nature, came in top as they are well-suited for an active city break while Collies in second place, being high energy dogs, need a lively outdoor holiday with lots of exercise.
"These dogs are very adaptable to the weather though, so they be great to take along with you on your staycation winter or summer," he said of Collies.
Labradors, like Goldens, are adaptable and happiest with lots of walks and access to water, making them perfect companions for a trip to the Lake District or seaside and they rank in third.
The Spaniel breed, though high energy, may exhibit anxiety in unfamiliar environments.
Mr Atherton recommends quiet, outdoorsy getaways with physically stimulating activities for them.
Jerry Rebbeck from Wheelwrights, also advises in favour of dog-friendly accommodations, especially with the 900 per cent increase in related Google searches over the last year, and advice on making the most of trips.
"Always be considerate of farmers and livestock when passing through fields, during lambing season in particular," advises Mr Rebbeck, "Be respectful of the local area by always picking up and appropriately disposing of dog waste."
Both experts recommend holiday let owners provide pet-friendly amenities easily available, such as an enclosed garden, a boot room, pet-friendly furniture and robust flooring.
"We always encourage holiday homeowners in popular walking areas to accept dogs as this increases the chances of bookings," Jerry adds.
