PLANS to refurbish a yard in Kendal and install digital screens to advertise events have been given the green light.
Westmorland and Furness Council has approved proposals from The Design Attic to refurbish the two entrance passageways off Stricklandgate at Wainwright's Yard.
Plans include installing new front entrance sign to replace the existing one, new slate paving with LED uplighters to replace coloured flooring in the passageways, as well as the installation of digital screens to advertise retailers and event in the yard,
Other proposals include installing upgraded LED down lighters in the ceiling and a new ‘Wainwright’s Yard & Booths’ combined banner.
Planning documents state: “The current entrance way is an over cluttered, neglected mish mash of different elements, which don’t work together. Different elements have been added at different points in the past to try and enhance the entrance passageways and help drive traffic to the retailers and business in the Yard.
“The proposed scheme is a less is more approach, stripping out everything that currently exists and creating a cohesive scheme that follows through the whole yard. We will be removing the clutter, improving the lighting and upgrading the signage, along with adding digital screens to promote events, retailers and other things going on in the community providing a link to the rest of the town centre.”
