TRAFFIC is queuing up on the A591 near Kendal in both directions.
South Lakes Police said the issue was caused by a jackknifed lorry blocking the carriageway.
The northbound lanes at Shenstone are closed, and only one lane is open going southbound.
The force is asking drivers to use an alternative route.
The Cumbria Police traffic website said the queueing traffic was due to 'traffic problems' on A591 both ways between Underbarrow Road (Kendal) and the A6 Kendal turnoff (Helsington).
The incident was first reported at 9.08am this morning, January 27.
