The developers of a proposed controversial Lake District attraction say they have taken on board feedback to devise new plans.
Burlington Stone and operators Zip World formally submitted plans to the Lake District National Park Authority last year for the Elterwater Quarry Experience.
The project aims to allow visitors to explore parts of the cavern that had been previously inaccessible for a 'heritage-based adventure experience.'
Plans include platforms that will be installed in the caves at points of interest, and visitors will travel from one platform to another via zipline.
Plans were rejected by planners in September on the grounds of traffic impact after Landscape conservation charity Friends of the Lake District objected to the plans in February 2023.
Over 90,000 people signed an online petition, created by a group called Zip Off Langdale, with concerns the area was being turned into a 'theme park'.
Friends of the Lake District had stated that the original plans did not include any new sustainable transport infrastructure or facilities to improve connectivity or improve water-based transport.
Developers says that they have taken onboard the feedback before submitted revised plans last month.
Andrew Hudson, CEO at Zip World said: "We have listened carefully to the feedback from the Lake District National Park Authority development committee in September, and used it to adapt our plans."
"Our new submission is centred on an enhanced travel plan to encourage the use of walking, cycling, public or shared transport and low emission vehicles to reach our site.
"It also highlights our proposed ticketing strategy that ensures visitor numbers do not exceed the on-site parking allocation, with financial incentives for those who use non-car travel to reach the experience.
"Combined with an improved visitor management plan, we are confident that this ticketing system and travel plan will allow us to easily manage and accurately predict visitor numbers at all times.
"Once visitors reach the site, they will be part of a unique experience that celebrates the mining heritage of Elterwater while triggering high value inward investment to the Lake District."
