Kendal-based charity, Manna House, served up festive cheer thanks to unprecedented support from local businesses, donors, and volunteers.

The charity, which works with homeless, vulnerably housed, and lonely individuals in the South Lakes community, hosted two festive feasts.

One midweek feast was attended by 77 guests, while a further 39 headed to the charity's Stephenson Centre for a meal on Christmas Day.

Two further meals went to unwell clients within the community.

Clare Neal, learning kitchen manager, said: "Numerous acts of kindness made it possible for us to bring much-needed comfort and joy to the Manna House community this Christmas.

"Simon Rogan and his restaurants sent delicious turkey pies and chocolate trifles. James Heap at The Castle Green added sparkle to our tables with crackers and napkins, while Sue Hodgson's family generously gifted us with turkey crowns, ham, and pigs in blankets from their Ambleside B&B."

Support continued with a supply of Dr Karen Green's alcohol-free Christmas puddings, and Sainsbury's community champion Joanne provided cheese, crackers and nuts for vegetarian guests.

In addition to the food, St Vincent de Paul Society's donation of gift cards ensured that clients could purchase something special for themselves or a friend.

The Manna House team's dedication was key to the success of the festivities, with 14 volunteers giving up their Christmas day to serve others.

Ms Neal said: "They are the beating heart of our organisation and give their time so generously."

Manna House is open for 51 weeks of the year, and on average offers 40 clients a three-course lunch, three times a week.

Given their limited budget, the charity's need for support extends beyond the festive period.

Ms Neal said: "Supporting Manna House is an ongoing endeavour, crucial in preventing homelessness and social isolation in Kendal.

"We eagerly anticipate another year filled with partnerships that help us foster a true sense of family, community, and care for those in need in our locality."

Working towards this goal, the charity extends thanks to Parr Street Church, Underbarrow WI, Sedbergh WI, Grayrigg School Ethos Team, Debbie and Malcolm Nicholls, Margaret Purcell, Friends of Manna House members, and their steadfast volunteers for consistent support.
