Tribute paid to Cumbria Young Farmers' Olive Clarke after death

101-year-old Olive Clarke, who held an OBE among other accolades, was involved in Cumbria Young Farmers since 1938 and was described as being a part of its very fabric from its early days.

A spokesperson from Cumbria Young Farmers said: “Although we all knew this day would come, it is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs Olive Clarke OBE. JP. DL. FRAgS.

“Many words will be written about Olive in the days that follow and in due course we will also pay our formal respects to Olive and the legacy she leaves behind at Cumbria Young Farmers.

“Involved with young farmers since 1938, Olive has been a part of the very fabric of Cumbria YFC since its earliest of days.

“The certificate she won for public speaking remained proudly on display at her home, a testament to the skills that Olive gained during her time as a young farmer and which set her on the road to a life of public service and great personal achievement.

“For thousands of young farmers over the years, Olive, our honorary life vice president epitomised Cumbria YFC, judging competitions, advising, helping and always being there for us through the good and the not-so-good times.

“She celebrated our successes, cheered us on at field days and attended many, many AGMs where she delighted in meeting young farmers of all ages.

“We will all have our own individual and much treasured memories of Olive and many of you will also have your own, personal reasons to thank her for the part she played in your lives.

“Thank you, Olive, for everything that you did for us and for helping make Cumbria YFC the successful organisation that it is today.

“We will miss you beyond measure and it seems only fitting to end with your own words

“Young Farmers never change they just grow older.”
