The Labour Party has confirmed it will be contesting the Westmorland and Lonsdale seat in the next election.
Sitting MP Tim Farron, a Liberal Democrat, claimed on Wednesday that Labour was not planning on 'seriously' contesting the seat, according to a recent communication to its members.
Labour has never won Westmorland and Lonsdale and at the last General Election in 2019 they lost their deposit, only winning four per cent of the overall vote.
But Paul Braithwaite, the chair of Westmorland & Furness Labour party, said: "I want to make sure our members know that we are contesting the seat.
"We're in the process of selecting our candidate at the moment, which will come to an end in early January."
