A COUPLE who fell in love at university tied the knot in the South Lakes.
Amelia Hammond, a 30-year-old fundraiser who grew up in Levens, tied the knot to 31-year-old George Barret.
The pair met when they were both taking a Master's degree at the University of Sheffield back in 2014.
"We very quickly became a couple. After a night out at a cocktail bar, the rest is history," said Amelia.
They got engaged on December 28 2021 while on a walk near the wife's family home in Brigsteer.
The pair got married on September 16 in St John's Church in Levens where Amelia's parents and grandparents had also been married.
Amelia said: "We have been living in Twickenham for the past six years but we couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else other than back home in the Lakes.
"The night before we were joined by our friends and family for drinks and nibbles at Townhead, it was great to introduce friends and family to one another and relax together before the wedding.
"We were very lucky that some of our best friends were staying in bell tents at Townhead over the weekend so we could start the celebrations early."
The wedding ceremony was followed by a reception at the Townhead Estate with 70 guests present.
Amelia said: "It was a lovely sunny day and very warm, which was a huge relief after the forecast all week had shown rain. Guest played garden games - archery, badminton, jenga and boules."
The couple enjoyed their first dance to Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) by Frank Wilson.
"We were surprised by my Auntie Liz, who had rewritten the lyrics to Bruno Mars’s Marry You to be All About the Day - which our guests then sang to us whilst the band played - this was such a lovely surprise and felt really special," said Amelia.
The next day the newlyweds' guests joined them for a boat trip on the lake on what Amelia describes as the 'most amazing weekend.'
After the wedding, the couple went straight up to the Isle of Skye, where they spent a wet and windy week.
