BOSSES of a café in Kendal have announced that it is up for sale.

The owners of the 2Friends Café in Blackhall Yard announced on Thursday that the local business is selling up.

They took the opportunity to pay tribute to their 'beautiful little café'  and thanked the community for the support they had been shown over the years.

The owners explained: "We had to make that heartbreaking decision due to the current very difficult economic climate in which our costs have outgrown our income.

"We are terribly sorry but we really had no other option."

Plenty of people on social media come out in sympathy for the team, reminiscing about the 'amazing' service that the café provided.

"So gutted for you all, I loved going there and seeing you all, the government needs to help out small businesses," one user commented.

Another added: "This is so very sad, a lovely place with lovely staff - Kendal is losing all the good places."

The news comes just over a week after Kendal BID issued a plea to support nearby small businesses.

At the end of November, both 'Christmas and More' and 'The Bakehouse' revealed that they were closing.

Peter Brendling, the Kendal Business Improvement District manager, said: "It is undoubtedly a tough time for retailers - we have had lockdown, high energy costs and inflation is on the rise.

"Retailers' costs have risen steeply and in many case they can not pass this on to the consumer as they, too, have been affected by these things."

New figures showed hundreds of businesses in South Lakeland shut their doors for good in 2022, the highest total since records began in 2002.
