A celebratory event in Kendal, due to take place tonight, has been cancelled because of the continuing poor weather.

St John's Hospice were preparing for their Light Up A Life event, which works to remember the loved ones local people have lost in the past or still cherish.

The event will now take place in a week's time on Monday, December 11.

The organisers said: "We are sorry for any inconvenience, we wanted to make sure this event would be safe for everyone to attend."

The news means that those wishing to attend now have more time to send in their dedication to be included on the hospice's tree.
