British television legend Rula Lenska has moved from the cobbled streets of Corrie to the picturesque scenery of Kirkby-in-Furness.

The soap star, who appeared as Claudia Colby between 2009 and 2011, visited the Cumbrian village to shoot scenes for her latest film ’The Kingdom By The Sea”.

Mrs Lenska was joined by her co-star Nicholas Ball, who poortrayed the vicious gang lord Terry Bates in EastEnders between 2007 and 2009, as they shot dramatic scenes on local resident Jack Pattinson’s farm.

Mr Ball was also spotted filming scenes in Soutergate and Kirkby Pool.

Director Richard John Taylor picked the locations after living in Kirkby 'on and off' for several years.

Ahead of the film’s release, plot details are being kept firmly under wraps but Richard revealed that  ’The Kingdom By The Sea’ was largely inspired by his time living in Kirkby.

Rula sported a bloodied nose while Mr Ball's face was made up with heavy cuts and bruising. The film has now completed filming after additional locations in London and Surrey.

Richard has shot three previous films in the village including ‘Trafficking’ which features young, local actress 15-year-old Evie Hughes as the daughter of murdered parents.

Alongside ’The Kingdom By The Sea’ a documentary called ‘Pattinson’ is also due for release next year.

After shooting a previous film on Mr Pattinson’s farm, the director asked if he could document a year in the life of Jack and his wife Janice.

After two years spent making a documentary following Mr Pattinson and his day-to-day life in the village and narrated by Rula, filming has concluded.

"Jack has been a friend of mine for five years,” said Mr Taylor.

“As a thank you ’The Kingdom By The Sea’ even features a character based on him. It only seemed right to return there to film as to me there is no scenery quite like it and it's impossible to replicate the feel of the village elsewhere.”
