November has arrived which means we're fully into the swing of autumn with mere weeks left until Christmas. Summer was just a few days ago, right?

The nights are darker, the air is chillier and the compulsion to sit in front of a log fire with a pint has never been greater.

Where is best? Well, The Times has published a list of all the best pubs in the UK that meet the ultimate autumn pub criteria.

They state: "Once the clocks have gone back and the temperatures have gone down, the only civilised place to while away a weekend is in the pub," quite right indeed!

"Their dimly lit bars, blazing fires and stress-free “woollies and wellies” dress code turn being confined indoors into a guilty pleasure.

Their list compiles 27 of the most endearing pubs to get snug in this autumn, with the full list being able to see here.

The Hare & Hounds Inn

Bowland Bridge, Cumbria

"The cask beer is Handsome Hound and the good looks don’t stop there. After a recent reboot, this Bowland Bridge coaching inn, three miles from Windermere, is sparkling.

"The bar is now the proud owner of a glamorous teal-green counter and witty art including a Tracey Emin self-portrait on being drunk, but the open fire and friendly service keep the atmosphere casual, as do the rustic-chic bedrooms.

"Food hits the spot nicely too, from burgers to chicken, avocado and peach poke bowls. The location is equally peachy: nearby, the top of Gummer’s How lays out the Pennines and Morecambe Bay majestically."

Details B&B doubles from £152; mains from £16.95

"Pull up a stool, order a pint and chat to the locals. If you’re feeling energetic, indulge in a pre-prandial game of darts before a hearty dinner and a stumble upstairs to bed," They say.

We wholeheartedly agree.
