Winter Tarn Dairy, Kendal, has scooped a national food award for its Farm House Salted Butter.

The accolade, a silver award in the Dairy category of the Great British Food Awards, was announced on October 27.

This annual event, running since 2014, celebrates Britain's finest artisanal produce and the dedicated individuals behind these products.

This year's judging panel comprised some of the country's leading food and drink experts, including food writer and restaurant critic William Sitwell, chefs Sally Abe, Paul Askew, Michel Roux Jr, Adam Handling, Raymond Blanc, and restaurateur Shelina Permaloo to name a few.

This year the awards format was revitalised with a brand-new system, made up of four award categories.

Recognising a range of qualities, bronze was given for delicious flavour by internal judges, silver for a standout foodie experience by a celebrity judge panel, gold awarded by the panel of celebrity judges to the very best products in each category, and platinum awarded to products that have achieved top honours twice within the past four years.

Harry Jackson, from Winter Tarn, said: ‘’We’re thrilled that Winter Tarn’s Farm House Salted Butter was recognised by the judging panel. Receiving a silver award shows that we’re creating an excellent product that appeals to a broad audience and stands out on the national stage.

"Recognition like this is a real achievement for the team and recognises all the hard work they put into the business day in day out.’’
