Cumbrian craft firm Coniston Stonecraft is to sell its hand-crafted slate coasters through Northern supermarket chain Booths.
Sited on Coniston Old Man's slopes, the company will now share its pieces — carved from Broughton Moor's green slate — with customers across the region.
Stonecraft owner Brendan Donnelly expressed pride at gaining recognition from Booths.
He said: "We're so proud that such a hugely respected British brand has recognised both the quality of our craftsmanship and the value of our Cumbrian heritage”.
The partnership crystallised when Donnelly approached Charlotte Walker, Booths' giftware buyer, leading to an order placed for three coaster variations – round, square and a special Lake District-themed print.
Brendan said: “Like everyone else, Booths is trying increase its local content and reduce its carbon footprint, so having slate coasters hand-crafted here in the Lake District, by local craftspeople, using traditional skills passed down through generations, makes perfect sense."
Cumbrian slate has a modest carbon footprint of 31kg per tonne.
The slate creations are set to hit shelves in selected Booths supermarkets this week.
