A POPULAR café has been forced to take the decision to close for two days next month after the announcement of a full closure of a nearby footpath.
Waterside Café and Food Bistro located on Kent View, overlooking the River Kent in Kendal will be closed between November 7-8.
This is because of the footpath from Lowther Street and Waterside being shut in both directions.
The footpath is scheduled to be closed for three months from October 30, and instead a diversion will be put in place from Lowther Street.
The works for the flood defences scheme started in October 2021 which began with the closure of the footpath by the Parish Church and then followed on Waterside.
Magda Szymanska-Linowiecka, owner of Kendal’s Waterside Café & Bistro explained how this has had a detrimental impact and caused her business to lose footfall because of the ongoing work.
She said: “We are trying to make sure we are open so we can serve delicious food, but the ongoing and very slow works are not helping us at all. We have lost a lot of customers because of it.
“We just want to say a big thank you for all the ongoing support we have been receiving from our most amazing customers. As we say, what’s not going to kill us will make us only stronger.”
More details of the diversion are to be announced in due course.
