A new skatepark has opened in the village of Shap after residents raised the required £30,000 to get it built.
The site has proved to be a big hit with the local children despite the dreary weather.
Situated in the centre of the village and part of a much larger project to refurbish the aging children’s play area and tennis courts, the skatepark will provide a new and exciting safe space for kids to hang out.
Parents and volunteers Charles Dobson, Kerry Dobson, Stacy Lewis-Wroble and Amy McGowan worked with the Parish Council for nine months to source the equipment and raise the money needed for the project.
The three-tonne bespoke half-pipe ramp is made from steel and skatelite pro, a special hardwearing weatherproof board, and was built and installed by AXO Leisure of Keighley, West Yorkshire.
