A new wine bar has opened up in Kendal after suffering a year of struggles and setbacks to get running.
Built in a former retail unit, 5 o'Clock Somewhere can be found on the corner of Finkle Street and Kent Street and has been brought to life by the Mullin family.
Following its maiden weekend, the bar is now open Thursday to Sunday. It is co-owned by Ronnie Mullin, who also works at The Factory Tap on Aynam Road.
Mr Mullin said: "It’s certainly been a long time coming because we originally aimed to be open by Christmas 2022, but better late than never.
"Although it’s been a frustrating journey at times, we’ve got a wonderful team who’ve all pulled together to get the doors open."
The menu features a selection of wines from all over the world with a variety of profiles.
The wine list, alongside a changing lineup of monthly specials, is available by the glass, carafe and bottle, while there are also selected wine flights to explore.
"We had a vision to provide the good people of Kendal with a different sort of evening out,” explained Ronnie’s eldest and co-owner Al Mullin.
"An opportunity to sample some delicious and varied wines from around the world, in a really comfortable environment topped off with properly attentive service."
5 o’Clock Somewhere is taking bookings by phone, email and through Instagram messages, and the striking glass exterior is sure to attract plenty of foot traffic.
"It’s incredibly satisfying to see that vision become a reality after the huge amount of work that’s gone into getting us where we are now," said Al.
"And that’s aside from the time we’ve spent actually getting the space ready - around 30 hours went into just glueing corks onto the bar."
Alice Mullin, fellow owner and daughter of Ronnie, said the whole team had been blown away by the response.
"It really is a dream come true and we just hope we can make it a success by giving all of our customers a night to remember every time they step through the doors," she said.
