Staff at a hospice in Ulverston were taken by surprise when a food truck arrived to give them free meals.

Nurses on call at St Mary's Hospice were given their tea at no cost by chef Harry Andrews, who owns and runs the Flavour Trailer.

The food truck normally tours around the Lake District, with Mr Andrews deciding to show the act of generosity to the workers.

Melissa Dixon, Events and Challenges Manager at the hospice, said: "Our nursing staff were overwhelmed to hear that during their shift on Wednesday, the Flavour Trailer had arrived in our car park to offer them all a complimentary evening meal whilst on shift.

"There was a total of twelve nurses on shift that evening, who were all delighted to take Harry up on his extremely generous offer."

The hospice has been running since 1988, but says that help from the community is needed more than ever.

It costs £4.7 million to run the establishment every year, providing care for people who need it most, with only 22% of funding coming from the NHS.

With the rest being raised through charitable donations from those in the local area, it is kind acts like the one they received earlier this week that can make a massive difference.

"As a hospice, we are continually humbled and thankful for the support we receive within our local community," Mrs Dixon added.

The team at the Flavour Trailer described it as a 'pleasure' to help out in any small way they could.

They said: "We would like to thank them [St Mary's Hospice] for all the amazing work they do."

The business can be reached through their Facebook page or by calling 07557674496, whilst donations can be made to St Mary's via their website.
