A beloved cat severely injured in a road traffic accident has made a full recovery after being flown to a leading animal hospital in the north-west.
Two-year-old Indya was catastrophically injured following an accident on the Isle of Man, but has recovered after surgery at Linnaeus-owned Kentdale Referrals in Milnthorpe.
Owner Larry Keenan found Indya unable to stand and wailing in pain post-accident.
He quickly arranged for her to be cared for overnight at Arg Beiyn, a local veterinarian clinic in Onchan, before arranging her transfer to Kentdale.
This venture involved a flight to Liverpool and a then a drive to Cumbria for both Larry and Indya.
Complicated surgeries including a 4.5-hour long operation were performed to mend the fractures on Indya’s pelvis at Kentdale, following diagnoses from a CT scan.
Grateful owner Larry said: “Kentdale were fantastic with Indya and didn’t give me any false hopes.
“Nevertheless, I couldn’t have wished for a better outcome and Indya’s road to recovery appears to be complete with a recent scratch of her ear – the first time she’s done it since the operation.
“I’d also like to say a massive thanks to my granddaughters Scarlett and Thea who have become Indya’s very own personal vets, eagerly helping with her physiotherapy.”
Graham Hayes, a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery, executed the intricate procedure, which involved the insertion of screws, pins, and wires to hold Indya’s pelvis together.
Indya's road to recovery appears complete, much to the delight of Larry’s granddaughters, Scarlett and Thea Robertson, who were integral to her home physiotherapy plan.
The two granddaughters' dedication, coupled with Kentdale's expert care, meant Indya has now returned to her usual habits, including the tell-tale scratch with her back legs.
Toby Gemmill, Kentdale's managing, applauded Graham for his work and hailed Indya's recovery as a "great success story".
He said: "Graham did a fantastic job completing very challenging surgery on Indya and, since the operation, she has amazed us all with her amazing recovery.
“She spent 10 days at Kentdale receiving specialist care and after just two days was able to start bearing weight on her right back leg."
