Customers are planning to bring their dogs into to say goodbye to a Kirkby Lonsdale pet store that is closing due to the Cost of Living crisis.
Tails of Kirkby Lonsdale on Chapel Lane will be closing for good at the end of this month.
The pet supplies store sells food, treats, toys, collars, leads, beds and training and grooming items.
The shop opened just as the country was coming out of the Coronavirus pandemic in June 2021 however its owners say they have been struggling through the effects of the Cost of Living crisis.
A spokesperson for Tails of Kirkby Lonsdale said: "I think at the moment businesses in all sectors are struggling - there just isn’t the same footfall of people around who are spending the same.
"I know it doesn’t seem it and a lot of people say 'well it always seems busy and there’s always people around', there is, but they are not spending the same, and the way customers spend is different.
"Obviously when you take on a business you have staff to pay and pensions, then you have increased rates to pay, increased electricity, so you have to put prices up.
"Also suppliers have changed how they operate and have increased minimum orders so it has a knock on effect. A lot of the products aren’t high priced items so to cover costs as a pet shop we need to be busy.
"I truly think a pet shop could do well in Kirkby Lonsdale and I hope in the future to maybe open again, but it just isn’t the right time for me at the moment . When living costs start drop we will see a difference."
The store made the announcement on its Facebook page on Sunday (August 20) with people expressing sadness that the shop is going.
One dog owner said: "That’s so sad to hear. Hope to be in on Thursday and you can meet the new puppy too. You’ve all always looked after me and my boy Buddy."
Another added: "Oh no we will miss you so much, Rosie loves your Milky Bones. We will be in on Wednesday, can you save me 10 bags of Milky Bones please?"
One woman added: "Oh so sorry to hear this will be in tomorrow with our three Yorkies."
Tails of Kirkby Lonsdale are currently holding a closing down until it shuts on August 31.
