THE headteacher of Kirkbie Kendal School Mark Harris congratulated students for an 'excellent set of results' and said it reflected their resilience after Covid.
Mr Harris said: "Congratulations to all of our students who are collecting their results today. Their hard work has been rewarded with an excellent set of results which is the launch pad to move on to exciting futures at some of the best universities around the country and abroad, high-level apprenticeships with some fantastic local firms and amazing gap year experiences. This is the first set of external exams that these students have taken in an exam hall due to the impact of Covid and the fact that they have achieved so much is testament to their resilience.
"The range of our students’ achievements is outstanding, from Art to Spanish with everything in between. Many of our students took a fourth A level or completed an Extended Project Qualification alongside their A levels.
"This group of students have contributed so much to the school throughout their time in Sixth Form, with their charity fundraising, their work with younger students and contributions to sporting and music events. They have been excellent ambassadors for the school and we wish them well with their many exciting plans and look forward to hearing of their further success in the future.”
James Roberts, who got AAA and will study Mechanical Engineering at University of Lancaster said: "We were still wearing masks at the start of A-Levels, there were still the lingering effects of Covid at the start. I'm definitely proud.”
His friend Reece Morgan, who also got AAA and will study Physics with Astrophysics at University of Lancaster said: "I'm glad I didn't fail! It felt very difficult, you see a lot stuff about how the grade boundaries are so high this year."
Charlotte Wright got A*AA and will go to Liverpool to study Biomedical Science. She said: "I'm very happy that the hard work has paid off. I was trying not to look at the news because they were saying they would lower the grade boundaries." She wants to specialise in tropical medicine, which tackles diseases such as malaria.
Head girl Edie Hollis got A*AA and will study Politics and International Relations at Bath. She said: "I'm so excited, I didn’t have much high hopes I didn’t think I’d get in never mind these grades.”
