THE soundtrack to a new film celebrating a steam train project has been performed by local bands and youth groups around the Westmorland Dales.

The film, created by Jilly Jarman from ‘Blue Jam’ to mark the end of the ‘Brass, Drums and Trains’ project, represents the journey of a steam train travelling from Kirkby Stephen to Tebay and onwards.

Over the past year, the project has celebrated the age of steam, bringing musical performers and audiences together alongside real-life steam trains at Stainmore Railway.

The new film features many of the inspirational performances, poetry and activities organised and delivered by project partner Julie Hoggarth from ‘Brass and Drums’.

The project was funded and created by the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership Scheme.

Nicolo Estill, community engagement officer with the Westmorland Dales Scheme, said: “The project has resulted in enormous benefits for local brass groups (both young and older groups) as Jilly and Julie have helped to regalvanise groups and rekindle an interest in brass instruments across the Westmorland Dales area and will continue to do so.”
