Staveley’s trailblazing e-bike sharing scheme was featured on BBC's Countryfile at the weekend.
The first community initiative of its kind in Cumbria, village residents now have access to e-bikes 24/7. The segment, aired on Sunday, showed how e-bikes can be part of the solution to improve rural transport options for a wide range of users and places.
The scheme launched in September 2022 with two e-bikes named Reston and Craggy after local landmarks. Based in Staveley Mill Yard, they are available on a pay-as-you-go basis for local residents, businesses and their customers.
Organisers, Sustainability and Energy Network in Staveley (SENS), have ensured the scheme can be rolled out to more areas by publishing a comprehensive manual.
The tailormade website and booking system have been designed for other communities to ‘piggy-back’, making it much cheaper and simpler to get up and running.
