THE refurbishment of Kendal Library - which will see clearer signage, an improved layout and dedicated seating areas - is nearing completion.
Work on the redesigned library started in January on behalf of Westmorland and Furness Council.
Developments on the ground floor are nearing completion and work on the first floor and ceiling is expected to be completed by early next month.
Noise disruption, access to local studies and toilet facilities have been problematic, but despite the ongoing building work, customer feedback has been positive, said the council.
“It’s wonderful to see this project nearing completion,” said Councillor Virginia Taylor, the Westmorland and Furness Council Cabinet Member for Sustainable Communities and Localities.
“The transformed Kendal Library building will provide the perfect space to read, learn, research, relax and make use of the digital facilities and resources on offer. The changes will modernise the library building and create a shared space for the whole Kendal community to enjoy.”
A celebration event will take place in September to showcase the changes with a date to be finalised in due course.
