DOZENS of walkers took to the iconic Morecambe Bay sands to raise much-needed funds for a hospice.
Participants trekked from Arnside to Grange as part of the charity Cross Bay Walk on Sunday.
The event, organised by Guide Over Sands Trust, saw walkers take on a seven-mile route all in the name of charity.
The group crossed the bay with the official King's guide to the sands Michael Wilson, which is the only way to traverse the ever-changing flats and channels of the sands.
Participants were encouraged to gather sponsorship on behalf of Bay Hospitals Charity, which funds the latest equipment for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust to help make patients more comfortable and ensure they get the best possible care and treatment.
Many walkers chose to fundraise for Ulverston's St Mary’s Hospice which relies on donations to fund the majority of its patient care.
This year fundraisers raised a whopping £2,500 with more sponsorship still to come in.
Mel Dixon, St Mary’s Hospice events and challenges manager, described the event as ‘fantastic’ and a ‘favourite’ in the hospice calendar.
She said: “The Cross Bay walk is always a favourite in the St Mary’s Hospice calendar, it’s fantastic to witness families and friends of all ages being able to have the opportunity to take part in this iconic crossing of the Morecambe Bay sands. I would like to take this opportunity to thank The King’s Guide to the sands Michael Wilson and his fabulous team for always being so accommodating and welcoming on these events.”
