An 82-year-old blind veteran has scooped a North West sight loss charity's first-ever jackpot lottery prize.

Robert Woof, from Carnforth, matched all six digits in the correct sequence to win £25,000 in Galloway's weekly competition. 

For over 150 years, the charity has campaigned to create a positive change for blind and partially sighted people in a sighted world.

Mr Woof has played the lottery for the last six years and was thrilled with his big win.

He said: "I am over the moon. I couldn't believe it when I heard I had won the top prize.

"I plan to treat my family and my grandchildren with the money - it's going to make a huge difference to us all. 

"I'm so grateful to Galloway's, they have been a huge support to me over the years and I'm pleased to be able to give something back to them.

The veteran's life changed when he lost his sight 20 years ago but the charity has helped him to remain both confident and independent, as well as providing him with invaluable support.
