A SOUTH Cumbria chocolate maker has scooped two awards at a prestigious national food awards for the third year running.
Freedom Chocolate, based in Swarthmoor, won Bronze and Silver in the Free From Food Awards in the Confectionary and Artisan categories. The awards were presented at the Presentation Party on June 8.
The awards are completely independent and are the only awards in the UK for Free From food and drink.
Freedom Chocolate had two products listed as finalists. It was awarded a Bronze Award for its Dark Raspberry and a Silver for their Mylk, both in the Confectionary category.
Owners Simon and Sarah Wood started the business in 2017. Their chocolate story unfolded as they tried to find treats for their own family of six.
The couple's chocolate is one of the only ones on the market which is free from all the top fourteen allergens. They recently returned to Cumbria for good after a short spell in Kent for family reasons.
Simon Wood, co-founder and chocolate maker at Freedom Chocolate, said: "There’s always a lot of competition, especially in the Confectionary category again with some huge names in there, too. Winning another two awards helps us to deliver to more chocolate lovers throughout the UK who need and want a truly free-from, luxury chocolate."
Retail interest has already increased since the awards and Freedom Chocolate is needing to upscale the business again and increase production.
Sarah said: "We are absolutely thrilled to collect a Free From Food Awards for a third year running. We pride ourselves in the fact that our chocolate is one of a very small number of luxury, craft chocolates on the market, which is free from all the top 14 allergens.
"New Bronze and Silver awards will help increase our visibility and is already making bigger retailers, who would often don’t entertain smaller businesses, sit up and take notice."
