ONE of the biggest events of the year celebrating rural life will return to the Westmorland County Showground this weekend.
The showground is getting ready for kite displays, arena demonstrations, marquees, competitions, historic cars, military vehicles, a vintage emporium and food and drink stalls for the 15th Country Fest.
There will also be many performers on the bandstand. The show raises funds for the Westmorland County Agricultural Society, an organisation dedicated to supporting farming and the countryside.
In terms of farming-related events there will be livestock, sheep shearing demonstrations and Meet the Farmer.
There will be a pets corner where the public will have the opportunity to handle and feed the animals and even milk a cow.
There will also be a poultry show, a rabbit show and two dog shows. The companion dog show will be on Saturday and the terrier show will be Sunday.

Jackie Holmes, of Westmorland County Agricultural Society, said: "Country Fest is designed to be a family day out with the ethos of promoting rural life, farming and the countryside whilst supporting local traders and businesses. The event has been running for over 10 years and has developed considerably in this time – there is a number of competitive classes including bake a cake, sew crafty, companion dog show, rabbit show, egg show and a new addition for 2023 is a ferret show.
"The dog show, terrier show and terrier racing can be entered on the day so just bring your dog along as well. We have the Rare Breeds Survival Trust Young Shepherds Competition plus Shetland pony racing, flyball, vintage vehicles and Landrovers, fell ponies, lots of food, craft, shopping and other traders plus food and drink outlets and entertainment on both days
"Throughout the year as part of our Rural Links work we run workshops with local schools and encourage them to enter our Schools Growing Challenges which this year are to grow a salad crop in a recycled sheep feed bucket and a Fill Yer Boots floral display in any pair of old wellies, boots or shoes."
