AN APPEAL for information has been launched after recyling bins intended for cardboard were used for building waste.
The recycling facility at the car park in Berners Close, Grange, has been the dumping ground for the remains of an apparent renovation project over the past two weeks, Westmorland and Furness Council (WFC) said.
Bathroom tiles, a basin and a toilet seat were among the items deposited.
"The council’s locality team are carrying out investigations and appealing for anyone who may recognise these distinctive tiles," said a WFC spokesman.
"Fly-tipping is illegal and convicted parties can be fined an unlimited amount or imprisoned for up to five years."
The spokesman stressed that leaving materials such as these in cardboard recycling banks contaminated the carboard and meant it could not be recycled.

The spokesman asked people having work done on their properties to check their builders had waste carrier licences and said householders could be liable for fines.
