A VILLAGE is getting ready for its Coronation celebrations by putting up 10 kilometres of bunting.
This was provided for by the parish council for Milnthorpe. On Thursday, April 20 the village members put it round the centre of the village by a team lead by parish council chairman Steven Hurst and a local contractor Craig Pickup.
A history plaque explaining the memorials around the village green is also to be installed. This includes the sycamore trees planted to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897, a seat around a tree for the Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II in 1977 and the War Memorial built in September 1919.
The plan of events for the weekend is as follows:
Friday, May 5: Tea party for senior citizens on the village green with entertainment by Milnthorpe Ballet School 4-6pm.
At 7pm there will be a coronation concert in St Thomas' Parish Church.
Sunday, May 7: Special services at the parish church at the RC Church of Christ The King.
Major community events on the playing fields from 2pm including sports, races, kite flying displays and the cake competition.
Monday, May 8: Beating the Bounds walk with Roger Bingham, 10am from the playing fields.
