THE owners of a five-star restaurant have spoken about their disappointment after a group dined and dashed - leaving behind a bill totalling hundreds of pounds.
The Sun Inn in Kirkby Lonsdale had put a request out on social media for the customers to contact the business and pay their £231.20 bill which they had racked up on Sunday, April 9.
The group in question consisted of two women, two men, and one child.
This situation is a ‘rare event’ for the business; however, it has still left a bitter taste on what was otherwise a ‘very successful’ bank holiday weekend.

Owners Iain and Jenny Black said: “It was lovely to see so many people out in Kirkby Lonsdale for the bank holiday weekend, we love to see people enjoy themselves with friends and family. That is why we do what we do.
“On Sunday, April 9, we had a kitchen team of two people and a front of house team of five people to do both the restaurant and bar.
“We were a little shorthanded but set out to ensure all our guests had an enjoyable time.
“We had over 100 people booked for food with each table being used twice or three times over.
“All our team worked flat out all day, we just cannot understand the mentality of why people think it is acceptable to then eat our food that has been carefully prepared in our kitchen and served by our excellent front of house team, and then when finished just get up and leave through the back door without a care in the world.
“We do take contact telephone numbers on booking but unfortunately, to date we have not been able to contact the guest due to the number just ringing out.
“It is so disappointing when people choose to act in this way, thankfully it is a rare event.”
Iain and Jenny took the time to thank guests and staff at The Sun Inn.
They said: “Understandably this has put a bit of a dampener on a very successful bank holiday weekend, but we would like to take this opportunity to thank the other guests who support our little five-star, 11 bedroomed inn, and two AA rosette restaurant and of course our wonderful team who often work long hours away from family to support the day to day running of the Inn.”
