AN author from Ambleside is set to publish her debut poetry collection.
The Arctic Diaries was written by Melissa Davies and charts generations of the characters, myths and misremembered details that make up the oral traditions of a windswept archipelago in Norway’s far north.
In recent years she spent a lot of time in the far north of Norway where she runs artist retreats at The Arctic Hideaway.
Inspired by the landscape, culture and stories of Fleinvær - a tiny Norwegian archipelago - Melissa combined her passions for travel writing and poetry into a collection, written over one long artic winter.
Created over a single arctic winter, using stories gathered from the last surviving fisherman of Langholmen, this collection of poems is part history, part field notes, exploring what role the outsider plays in preserving the experience of another culture.
The collection will be published by Arachne Press on April 27.
