A MOTORIST has been given a three-year ban for drug driving.

Bradley Chapman, 22, of Nateby near Kirkby Stephen, also received a £650 fine, £775 costs and £65 victim surcharge at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court yesterday (March 6).

On June 11 last year Chapman was stopped in his vehicle by officers on the A685 at Brough. Officers at the roadside conducted a drugs wipe, which resulted in a positive test for drugs.

Chapman was conveyed to a station for a further sample to be sent for forensic analysis, which showed that he was over the specified limit for drugs.

A police spokesperson said: “We take drug driving offences extremely seriously. We want to make Cumbria’s roads safer, and drugs, like alcohol can equally have a dangerous impact on your driving. If you are caught, we will look to prosecute and bring you before the courts”
