A GROUP of people prayed together to show solidarity for the people impacted by the war in Ukraine.
February 24 marked one year since the war in Ukraine started.
To pay respect to Ukraine, Kendal Parish Church had a Prayer Evening with a large representation of Ukrainian friends and with the attendance of Mayor Doug Rathbone.
The event was attended by 60 people, who came out on a cold evening to pray and show solidarity.
Kate Wright, Prayer Coordinator at Kendal Parish Church, said: "We started the evening outside the church with a minute's silence. We then moved inside.
"Our vicar Shanthi Thompson had placed candles in the centre of the Bellingham Chapel where we were all seated in a ring.
"We had a time of open prayer and candle-lighting. The choir then sang an anthem for Ukraine. Our Ukrainian friends then got to their feet and sang their National Anthem. It was very moving indeed."
The prayer coordinator said these meetings will happen once every two months for "as long as the war persists."
She added: "All are welcome - of any faith or none - to show solidarity."
