AN APPLICATION to construct a section of a proposed new walking and cycle route close to the shores of Windermere is to come under the spotlight.
The plan for 500m of path between the Lakeside Hotel and The Knoll on the south-western side of the lake is to be discussed by the Lake District National Park Authority's (LDNPA's) development control committee on March 1.
In a report produced ahead of the committee meeting, LDNPA area planner Jackie Ratcliffe says the route, which would pass through woodland, 'has been designed as a predominantly hard-surfaced, accessible path'.

The proposal forms part of a wider plan for 5.5km of path between The Swan Hotel and Spa at Newby Bridge and YMCA Lakeside.
In her report, Ms Ratcliffe recommends that the application for the 500m 'section three' of the project be approved.
She says the plan was submitted to the committee for consideration because the national park authority is the applicant and it is a 'locally significant proposal'.
