A BREWERY Arts mature theatre group is performing a dark comedy set.
Act your Age will be performing Viewings - a dark comedy written and directed by the tutor Chris Jones and adapted by the group.
The show is set in a house that's for sale, visited by a succession of couples, all with different motivations which collide in dramatic and hilarious fashion.
Cathy Tolbert who plays Frederica in Viewings, said: "We have put a lot of time and effort into this show. It is thought provoking with plenty of mystery about it and we would love to have your support!"
Joyce Evans who plays Elspeth in Viewings, said: "What I have loved most about rehearsals is the chance to work as a team. I live alone and it is exciting to come out and work closely with other people."
Act Your Age is a weekly theatre class at Brewery Arts aimed at over-sixties to develop new skills, stretch creativity and build confidence while working on a variety of live performances and projects.
This term the class was taught by Chris Jones who has worked as a professional actor since 2009 with career highlights including playing King George VI in the stage version of ‘The King’s Speech’ and Treat in ‘Orphans’ at the English Theatre of Hamburg.
“Working with the Act Your Age group has been absolutely fabulous. It has been a brilliant experience for me,” said Chris.
“They are extraordinarily talented and I can’t wait to see the finished show on the 15th of February and also to see what they go on to produce in the future.”
While the original script was written by Chris, the actors have had chance to adapt it and develop their own character in the process.
"They took the characters from the bare essentials I started, and made it their own. It is a really collaborative project that we have made between us and that we are really proud of", said Chris.
Outside of the rehearsals for Viewings, Act Your Age learn a variety techniques, methodologies and approaches to acting.
"I was looking for something to challenge me, when you retire it is easy to slip into routine", said Joyce.
"Act Your Age has gone beyond my expectations and we are constantly challenged and taken from our comfort zone".
