Westmorland MP Tim Farron has secured a meeting with the Minister of State for Business, Energy and Clean Growth Graham Stuart to discuss options of tidal energy in Morecambe Bay.
Speaking during a question relating to offshore energy, Mr Farron raised the fact that the UK has the biggest tidal range on Earth after Canada however we are using virtually none of it to generate clean energy.
In response, the Minister agreed to a meeting with the MP to discuss future options but was keen to emphasise that a number of different licences were granted for tidal development in other areas of the country last year.
Mr Farron said: “The response from the Minister was very encouraging and I am looking forward to meeting with them.
“We absolutely should be looking to provide clean, green energy for future generations and Morecambe Bay and its untapped tidal potential is an obvious choice to start.”
