THE LONG-awaited announcement of the allocation of government funding for the Eden North Project in Morecambe has been further delayed.
The project is awaiting the levelling-up funding confirmation having already gained planning permission and land allocation.
The announcement comes just two weeks after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that the decision on government funding for the project would be made by the end of 2022.
MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale David Morris said: "We have a fantastic project, with regional, not just local, impact and a strong business case."
The government says the announcement will now be made by the end of January 'in order to allocate additional funding.'
Tourism and the economy of the whole north west of England is set to benefit from the ambitious project's confirmation, including Cumbria.
Managing director of Cumbria Tourism Gill Haigh said: "This would be great news for the region, giving our visitors even more reasons to visit, stay and experience all that we have to offer around The Bay and beyond.
“We have worked closely with Marketing Lancashire and other partners to support the Eden Project North ambition and we hope we will shortly be in a position to work collaboratively to turn the vision into reality. Fingers crossed.”
