A BELOVED children’s story will be brought to life on stage by the Warton Drama Group in January 2023.
The Warton group will be putting on their production of Edith Nesbit’s The Railway Children on January 12, 13 and 14.
The beloved children’s story, that was published in 1906, follows the adventures of Bobbie, Peter, and Phyllis when they relocate from London to Three Chimneys after their father is falsely accused of espionage.
The lead roles will be played by Emma Nixon as Bobbie, Duncan Lindsay as Peter and Arden Chandler playing the role of Phyllis.
Performed by the popular drama group, the show will be held at the Heron Theatre in Beetham.
The Warton Drama Group is known for its sell out audience numbers and committed performances across a variety of genres, and have often performed in Warton’s historic Village Hall.
The play is directed by Marion Plowright who brings her decades of experience to this play.
She said: “Every play is a kind of miracle and the process of direction never ceases to amaze me.
“This play can so easily become over-sentimental and bogged down in elaborate sets, but this adaptation by Mike Kenny has fantastic energy which we’ve tried to bring off the page; I think there’s a dynamism to this production helped by wonderful sound effects of steam trains, great performances and costumes and what can be achieved with four chairs and a whistle.”
One member of the cast said: “This is my first show with WDG but the attention to the details of each scene and the layers to each aspect of the show is something I’ve never seen before.
“Really look forward to the night of the show and would really like to work with them again.”
The Railway Children will be shown at the Heron Theatre, Thursday to Saturday, at 7:30pm.
There will also be a matinee performance at 2:30pm on Saturday.
