A SELFLESS carer has been awarded for being an ‘exceptional person who has gone above and beyond and made a real difference to people’s lives’.
58-year-old Shaun Moore was awarded the Sara Berrio Care Champion of the Year award in the National Care Awards 2022.
Shaun, who sees to clients primarily around Kendal and Grange, works for Home Instead South Lakes. The company provides bespoke care for those living in the South Lakes, including places such as Ulverston, Windermere, Ambleside and Bowness Before joining Home Instead a few years ago, Shaun worked in the retail industry for 30 years. He also helped to looked after a gentleman with Parkinsons for five years, igniting a passion for care work.
Home Instead South Lakes describes Shaun as an ‘amazing care professional who always goes the extra mile.
During Storm Arwen Shaun was unable to get to a client’s house due to a tree blocking the way – but he decided to abandon his car and walked through a forest and streams to get there.
Shaun also runs the Ronnie Gardiner Methods (RGM) group with his partner in Kendal. The group provides multi-sensory exercise therapy for people who have conditions of the brain, as well as for healthy ageing.
Leigh Littlechild, Shaun’s manager, said: “Shaun is an amazing man. He manages to create special relationships really quickly with all of his clients and each of them are very different. Some of clients visits are four or five hours which enables him to help them with lots of things from helping with personal care to taking them out for a walk.
“He feels rewarded every day, as he knows the massive difference he is making to their lives. He cares with dignity and respect and knows how to calm clients and make them feel relaxed.
“He makes everyone feel that they are the most important person in the room and improves the quality of their lives each and every day.
“I have seen such a big difference in his clients. They are happier, more relaxed and more at ease.
“Not only does he care for his clients, he also does a lot of work in the community. He is dedicated to putting something back in our community.”
