OUTLINE permission to build a new property at a farm near Kendal has been granted by the Lake District National Park Authority.
The application from Mrs E Cartmell concerns land at High Cartmell Fold, Crosthwaite.
A heritage, design and access statement said the applicant required a property on a single level.
The statement said the age and listing of the existing farmhouse meant it would not be possible to convert it without 'significant harm'.

Converting an on-site barn, said the statement, would have created too much space for Mrs Cartmell's needs and deprived the farm of storage space.
"There is a detached building to the front of the farmhouse, but this functions as the farm office, which is important to maintain for the farm," said the statement.
"As such, it would seem that the best approach is to build a new dwelling which will meet both the practical needs of the applicant but also provide a second dwelling for this large farm.
"The son can move into the farmhouse, and he will take an increasing role in the farm management, moving to full control."
