Kendal Rugby Clubs Second team returned to action and defeated Glossop 22-19 in a hard-fought contest at Mint Bridge.
The Seconds who are now seventh in NOWIRUL Baines Plumbing Division 1, deserved their win despite the close nature of the score.
Kendal started the game well and scored the first try after just six minutes when Wesley Hendricks crashed over near the posts before Hendricks converted his own try as Kendal were 7-0 up.
Despite the positive nature to the home team’s performance, Glossop got back into the game when one of their players crashed over from close range, while Kendal held a slender advantage after the visitors missed the conversion.
Both teams went onto create good opportunities, before Kendal extended their lead when Finlay Quarry broke clear to score near the posts, while Hendricks kicked the conversion as Kendal went 14-5 in front.
Glossop battled back again with a try from close range while the resulting conversion saw the visitors close to within two points of the home team.
Kendal scored a crucial try two minutes before half time after the ball was off loaded to Haydn Holmes who went in at the corner and while the conversion was missed Kendal were 19-12 in front at half time.
In the second half, defences were on top for both teams, whilst a few opportunities were also created, but as the game went into the last five minutes, Wesley Hendricks kicked a crucial penalty which went over as the hosts edged 22-12 in front.
The penalty proved to be the key moment and while Glossop scored a try in the last minute the referee blew for full time as Kendal celebrated the win.
Kendal travel to play Rochdale on Saturday.
