A SAXOPHONIST and BBC Radio 3 broadcaster from Ulverston played at Carnegie Hall in New York.

Jess Gillam posted that she was making her debut at the famous venue on her Facebook, saying: "New York! Carnegie hall tonight...I can't believe it - a dream come true! Playing with Thomas Weaver a programme from Telemann to Ayanna Witter-Johnson, Poulenc, Piazzolla, Meredith Monk and more!"

She performed on Tuesday night.

Jess attended the Royal Northern College of Music while still at secondary school, and has since then gone on to become the youngest-ever presenter on Radio 3 and the first saxophonist to be signed to Decca Classics. She was given an MBE for the 2021 Birthday Honours because of her services to music.

Carnegie Hall in Manhattan was built in 1891 and is one of the most famous venues in the world for classical music. Jess will continue to tour the US, playing in California and New Jersey.
