A KENDAL astronomer and author has published his latest science fiction work on Kindle.
Stuart Atkinson has self-published his latest work ‘Witness’ which includes his home town of Kendal as a setting for the book.
The new book includes themes of time travel, technology, and science fiction.
Stuart has published several pieces of work in the past, including his extremely popular and award-winning book ‘A Cat’s Guide to the Night Sky’.
His new book is available on Kindle from this week and Stuart aims to bring out the paper version later this year.
Stuart said: “This my way of getting Kendal onto the science fiction map.
“Witness is an alien invasion story. It’s like a trip through time. It starts of as a contemporary story but then ends up millions of years in the future.
“There is an AI that sees events through history and gets a little bit too involved in things.
“It’s set in Kendal for one chapter. I love my town; I’ve lived there for 17 years.
“It’s a sprawling science fiction epic about how mankind’s history goes wrong, but its set in Kendal. It’s grim in some places but uplifting in others.
“My main passion at the moment is writing about the first cat that went into space, Felicette. I’m a cat person.
“I’m currently writing a biography on her and I think it’ll be the first book about it.
“It’s nice to have our town in a book. A lot of the history is well known so it’s well to get it into the science fiction genre.”
