With autumn officially here, Cumbria’s landscapes are turning from green to gold. Discover where to see autumn colour at its best across the county.

If you like to get active, an autumnal walk is a great way to see the landscapes.

In Coniston, the path along the old Copper Mines reveals a stunning display of autumn colour.

Wrap up warm and enjoy the walk, before heading into the village for lunch or a cup of tea at one of its pubs and cafes.

A woodland walk is another great way to immerse yourself in autumn colour, and there are plenty to choose from across the county.

There’s Whinlatter, England’s only mountain forest; Lanthwaite Wood near Crummock Water; Eaves Wood in the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; and plenty more.

If you’re in the mood for a more leisurely stroll, head to one of Cumbria’s local parks.

In Cockermouth, Harris Park offers accessible walking paths alongside the River Cocker; and a vibrant display of reds and golds in the trees above.

While there, visit Wordsworth House & Garden; head out to the Lakes Distillery for a tour and tasting; or visit the nearby Lakes Wildlife Park.

See autumn colours from a new perspective, with a boat trip on one of Cumbria’s lakes.

Windermere Lake Cruises, Ullswater Steamers, Keswick Launch and Coniston’s Steam Yacht Gondola all operate boat tours year-round, offering the opportunity to see the trees turn yellow and gold while sailing across water.

Why not head for a historic country home or castle to enjoy the autumn colours?

As well as stunning gardens, you will also be able to warm up with a tour of the house; and many have onsite cafes, too.

Near Kendal, Sizergh Castle’s gardens are filled with seasonal colour; in the western Lakes, Muncaster Castle hosts autumn events as well as boasting colourful scenery.

For family friendly fun this autumn, Walby Farm Park and Lakeland Maze Park both offer Pumpkin picking events as well as their usual adorable farm animals and activities.

With Treetop Trek at Brockhole on Windermere, you can experience the autumn leaves while adventuring amidst the trees; before warming up in the on-site café.
