INTERNET company Fibrus has launched its hyperfast broadband in Kendal as part of a £200 million Cumbria-wide expansion.

Kendal is the second town in Cumbria, after Penrith, to have access to the full-fibre high-speed broadband service, which will reach 14,500 homes and businesses across the town.

The internet provider aims to reach 113,000 premises in the next three years, focusing on areas of Cumbria that have previously been under-served by high-speed providers.

Tim Farron, MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, said: "I'm delighted that Fibrus is launching in Kendal.

"Hyperfast broadband is now more essential than ever, and I'm pleased that many of my constituents will now be able to access it.

"With many of my constituents working from home, they rely on faster broadband to drive the growth of their businesses, as well as the wider economy.

"I welcome Fibrus' ambitious plans for future rollouts across the area, and I will continue to work with providers including Fibrus, and the Government, to ensure local communities can access hyperfast broadband.

"It is essential we continue to strive for harder to reach areas to be better connected."

Fibrus is offering Kendal residents a saving of £10 a month on their broadband when they sign up to a 24-month contract, on either a 150Mb, 300Mb, or 1000Mb package.

The offer started on August 8 and is only available to residents in Cumbria for a limited time.
