KENDAL squash club have found great success in their latest competitions where their members represented England on the international stage.
Terry Belshaw, Steve Edmondson, and Allen Barwise had all previously been picked to play for England in the Home Internationals.
Allan was victorious in the Danish Open, while Terry won the French Open. Furthermore, Polly Woodward, Allen’s partner, won her age group during the French open competition.
Allen is the current European over 60s champion who has represented England many times at different age groups, Terry has represented England six times and for Steve this was his first time representing his country.
Terry also had the honour of leading England’s over 70s team as their Captain during the Home Internationals competition which was held in Scotland.
During the competition, England were victorious in all of their matches, and Terry defeated the reigning Scottish champion, Emilio Fazzi, whom he beat 3-1.
The players also brought home the trophy from the French Masters Open, and the International Cup in the master’s division.
The French Masters were held on July 8-10.
Terry also received a medal for his performances in the Scottish Home Internationals competition.
Terry said: “To beat the reigning Scottish national champion felt incredible.
“It’s an exciting time. It was a good weekend, you play one match on Friday night, and then two on the Saturday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
“To be able to play for England, be selected at all is every sportsman’s utopia really.
“To take it one level up and be able to captain a side, and also to get a victory under that title is the internationals is pretty special.
“It’s like anything else, great in those twilight years to look back on but now you’re looking for your next hit. The next adventure.
“When you play it doesn’t matter if you win or lose, what matters is the next one.
“As long as you play, there is plenty of time to reflect on it all. Nice era to play, nice to tell your kids about.
“We’re looking forward to the next regional one which is part of the five qualifiers for England selection in Manchester at the end of September.
“It’ll be me, Steve, and Holland going down to that one.
“Holland went across to Copenhagen and won the Danish open, which was a big plus, and Alan’s partner Polly came to France and she won her age group in the ladies.
“The club has had good representation and good results. Across the board.”
