THE Students at Ulverston Victoria High School (UVHS) got a fantastic set of GCSE results, including one student that nearly swept the board with 9s.
This is the first year since the pandemic that exams have run as normal, but despite this many of the students will be going into sixth form or college with a good set of grades under their belt.
Proud headteacher Matthew Hardwick said: "We are delighted that the school is again seeing such a great set of GCSE results. Despite everything they have had to cope with, children across the ability range have made excellent progress with many examples of high achievement."
The best example of high achievement would be Lucy Granville, who got 9s in Combined Science, History, Maths, Dance, English Literature and Computer Science, and a 7 in English Language.
When asked how she felt she said: "I feel really good! I got a really good set of results! I wasn't expecting to get that, I was expecting to get 5s."
Lucy was being humble because her predicted grades were 7s and 8s. Even so, her set of results puts her right at the top of GCSE candidates across the country. She is looking forward to studying History, Maths and Psychology for A-Levels at UVHS's Sixth Form college.
Another student that did well was outgoing head girl Ella Higgs. Ella got an 8 in English Literature, 8 in Geography, 8 in Dance, 7 in Chemistry, 7 in Physics, 6 in Biology, D2 in Engineering and 5 in English Language.
Ella said that she had enjoyed being head girl: "It's been nice to represent my year group and it's just been a nice opportunity, especially when it has been voted for by fellow teachers and students."
Grace Weaver got 2 9s in Chemistry and Biology, an 8 in Geography, 7 in Maths, 7 in Spanish, 5 in English Language, a 6 in English Literature and a D*2 in Sports. She said: "It was hard during the exam period but I revised hard and I'm glad that I got the grades that I have."
Grace and her family have booked a meal out in a restaurant to celebrate.
