KIRKBIE Kendal celebrated their students for achieving the best results in the history of the school.

The results, achieved under exam conditions, were even higher than the centre assessed grades of 2020 and 2021.

Staff members praised their students who arrived this morning to claim their results.

Students have risen to the challenges of the pandemic, have shown great resilience, have worked incredibly hard and have looked after each other.

Headteacher Mark Harris said "It has been great to see so many happy faces this morning as students collect their results.

"These are the best results the school has ever achieved, even better than the centre assessed grades of the previous two years. Students should be proud of what they have achieved.

“We are delighted with the results which demonstrate the quality of the teaching, pastoral and support staff I have the privilege to work with, and our hugely supportive parents and carers.

“Over half of these young people will be joining us back in our outstanding sixth form where nearly half of grades achieved this year were A and A*.

“This cohort of students have overcome the challenges of the pandemic to achieve these best ever results. They have worked from home, have worn masks in classrooms, have queued for Covid tests in school and have done it all without complaint and with good grace.

“They should be proud of themselves. We are certainly proud of them."

Head of English, Jessica Walker, who has taught at the school since 2004, spoke of how proud she was of her pupils.

She said: “These are the best English results we've seen, many passes from all of our hardworking students.

“Everyone worked incredibly hard even when working remotely.

“The one to nine structure is how they’re marked. All are a pass but everyone wants that four or above.

“We’ve had a lot of 9s and everyone should be so proud of themselves. I’m so proud of them all.”

Leo Williams, who was described as their drama super star, will be going on to do drama and musical theatre after his results.

He said: “I feel I can sleep soundly now that part is over.

“I’ll be staying here for sixth form and I really didn’t expect these results. I was a little nervous about them but I’m really happy with them.”

Nicole was greeted by some amazing results as she achieved equal to five A*s and three As.

She said: “I really didn’t expect these results. I got an eight in Chemistry and English, and I was so happy to pass Spanish.

“Drama was my favourite, but I didn’t expect this in my A levels.

“I’ll definitely be staying here for sixth form. Kendal is my home and I’ve enjoyed my time here so much.”

Poppy was praised for her work in Spanish, and across her other subjects as she achieved two 9s, four 8s, and a 7 and a 6 across her subjects.

She said: “I was so happy to pass Spanish which was a difficult one.

“I also got a level two distinction which I was happy about.

“I’ll also be staying here for sixth form. They have a really big sixth form here and we have such good relationships with the teachers so a lot of us will probably stay,”

Elodie achieved one of the best in the year with an incredible nine 9s, an 8 and a 7. Across her subjects.

She said: “I was really surprised to find out.

“I didn’t expect this at all but it was really good to see them. It was incredible.

“I was very nervous to start with but I’ve got a good school. Well done to everyone who got their results as well.”

Jarrod found similar success by achieving four 9s, four 8s and two 7s.

He said: “It wasn’t what I was expecting at all but I’m so happy I’ve got them. I’m hoping to go into industrial chemistry in the future.

“During my exams I got Covid so had to miss some of them but they were spread out so you at least could get your exam done in each one of your subjects.

“I’m really happy with my results and really grateful to my school.”
