CRAG Bank Hall will be hosting a fundraiser for Polio and for the people of Ukraine.

Organised by Rotary Club district governor and former Carnforth Mayor Kath Bromilow MBE, the hall will host the fundraiser on October 8 between 10am and 4pm.

The event will be promoting Polio as the charity for the Rotary Club this year and there will be a number of events throughout the district in the coming months.

At the hall, there will be a sale of new clothing for babies and young people, where it is also hoped other small businesses will pay for table space to make it a bigger event.

For this the donation's will be split into three amounts. A third will go to Polio, a third will be donated to the Ukraine for medical aids and a third will go toward purchase energy vouchers for those in need in Cumbria and Lancashire this winter.

For a large number of years District 1190 Cumbria and Lancashire have assisted in many ways already, raising funds, going into schools to speak to children and young people, having stalls at events and a number have gone out to other countries to assist in the Vaccination project.

In January 2023, District Governor (DG) Kath Bromilow MBE, along with a fellow Rotarian from Carnforth Rotary Club Linda Lambson will fly out to India to help to assist the program there.

Kath said: “In January 2023, me and another colleague from Rotary will be going to India to take part in their vaccination program for children against polio.

“We are looking forward to that and the money we are raising with this fundraiser will be going to India.

“It is a self-funded trip and we’re very excited about it.

“I got in contact with a Rotary Club in Thailand and one of their member’s sisters lives near Bolton and she had a large amount of clothes to donate.

“It is very useful to the community and all the clothing are very good quality which could benefit in a lot of ways.

“We are aiming to make around £3000 in October and the council have kindly given us the hall.

“We are also looking for people to get in touch and hire a table in the hall for about £15 which will go toward the amount.

“There will be a lot of coffee, tea and cakes going around as well.”

Another project has been the Purple4Polio Tins which have been supported by Nestle especially for this cause.

October 24 will be world Polio Day, where clubs throughout Cumbria and Lancashire will be involved in activities, like Walk a Mile for Polio, Mufti days at local schools and tea/ coffee mornings will be held.

Kath added: "We would welcome people joining us and taking part along with rotary, why not contact a local club to find out more about us.

"Anybody is made welcome, and you can guarantee making some great new friends and have a great time."
